So, what is steampunk anyway?
According to Wikipedia, Steampunk is ‘a subgenre of science fiction or science fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery ‘.
Many films and novels have been inspired by the science fiction genre. Not only that, steampunk has largely been perpetuated at conventions and events where fans of the fashion can display their own personal interpretations of the Steampunk look.
The fashion is based on the ethos that questions what the world would have looked like, had electricity never been discovered. The idea is that steam power would be the predominant form of energy. All forms of Steampunk fashion involve some sort of locomotive overtone.
The subaquatic steampunk weekend is expected to draw large numbers and attendees are encouraged to join in by dressing in their finest Steampunk fashion.
