Tickets: Mostly Free of Charge
Opening Times: Chalet opening hours: 10am – 8pm / Bar opening hours – 10am – 10pm

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s only the Flying Santa. Once again, old St Nicholas will be gracing the skies at the Southampton Christmas Festival and Christmas Market. Starting from 11 November and closing on 23 December 2017, this brilliant festival is to be enjoyed by the whole family. The best part is that it is absolutely free to attend.

Santa will be ‘flying’ (suspended by wires) straight from the North Pole to visit all the good boys and girls. Our favourite Saint will be swooping in from Monday to Saturday at 5pm and 7pm, and Sundays at 3pm and 5pm. The show will last about 15 minutes and afterwards Santa will invite the children to join him at the large Advent Calendar where he will be handing out small gifts.

The Southampton Christmas Festival takes place on Above Bar pedestrian precinct and Bargate Street and features a traditional German market operated by internationally renowned WELA Märkte. Folks from far and wide will be attending the market to wonder through the alpine chalets offering traditional German fare. Enjoy authentic bratwurst and waffles, gingerbread hearts and candied fruit, mulled wine and cold stein beer. How can it get any better than this?

We all have that one member of the family for whom it is difficult to buy the right gift. Well, look no further than the Southampton Christmas Festival and Christmas Market. Attendees can enjoy over 40 independent stalls offering a range of hand-made, authentic gifts. This is perfect for last-minute Christmas shopping.

The sub-aquatic steampunk weekend

What’s happening? The subaquatic steampunk weekend
Date
: Saturday 30 September 2017
Where? Royal Navy Submarine Museum in Gosport
Time:
10:00 am until 5:00 pm
Tickets: £12.00

The Royal Navy Submarine Museum in Gosport will be hosting the Subaquatic Steampunk Weekend on Saturday 30 September 2017. Doors open from 10:00 am till 5:00 pm and tickets are an affordable £12-00 to get in.

The weekend will have something for the whole family. Apart from experiencing all the nautical- themed steampunk festivities, families can explore the HMS Alliance, the only remaining WW2 era British ocean-going submarine.

So, what is steampunk anyway?

According to Wikipedia, Steampunk is ‘a subgenre of science fiction or science fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery ‘.

Many films and novels have been inspired by the science fiction genre. Not only that, steampunk has largely been perpetuated at conventions and events where fans of the fashion can display their own personal interpretations of the Steampunk look.

The fashion is based on the ethos that questions what the world would have looked like, had electricity never been discovered. The idea is that steam power would be the predominant form of energy. All forms of Steampunk fashion involve some sort of locomotive overtone.

The subaquatic steampunk weekend is expected to draw large numbers and attendees are encouraged to join in by dressing in their finest Steampunk fashion.

If you are planning on experiencing the Sub-aquatic Steampunk Weekend, why not avoid the long drive home by staying at B+B Wickham. Jimmy Carr – The best of, ultimate gold, greatest hits tour

Jimmy Carr best of, ultimate gold, greatest hits tour

Jimmy Carr

Jimmy Carr: Best of, ultimate gold, greatest hits tour

He’s won the British Comedy Award for ‘Best Live Stand-Up Tour’ and been nominated for the Perrier Award. Now all that experience is being put to good use – you can see all the greatest material from his extraordinary career in one show – this is the very best of Jimmy Carr.

A firm favourite on stage and screen, Jimmy has delighted audiences with his cutting-edge one-liners, razor sharp wit and deadpan delivery for more than a decade. Don’t be fooled by his cheesy grin though, this funny man has a lot of bite.

The life of Jimmy Car

After becoming established as a stand-up comedian, Carr began to appear in a number of Channel 4 television shows, becoming the host of the panel show 8 Out of 10 Cats and also The Big Fat Quiz of the Year, a comedy panel show that airs each December to review the past year.

Jimmy is one of the hardest working stand-up comedians in the UK today. He has been known to perform stand-up tours continuously over the course of the year, taking only five weeks off between them.

Jimmy Carr has always been able to think outside of the box. In 2006, he was the first major comedian to perform in the virtual reality world known as Second Life. For those of you who don’t know, Second Life is an online virtual world which is populated, developed and grown by the users who frequent the website. Jimmy performed his live stand-up routine which was then projected into a digital environment (Second life) for people to enjoy across the globe.

No successful career in the lime light is without some form of controversy. In 2012 Jimmy was allegedly involved in a tax avoidance scheme. Considering the amount of media pressure, Carr reprised his position as one of the top comedy acts in the country, growing from strength to strength.

Laugh out loud

Jimmy will be performing at the Mayflower theatre, Southampton on Sun 23rd April at 7:30pm. If you are planning a trip to Southampton, we would like to invite you as our guests to stay at B+B Wickham. Warwick Lane indoor market: Russell Flint Pictures and Athena Fayres

Whether you are a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveller to the civil parish of Wickham, there are a few wonderful attractions to take advantage of. Situated in the centre of this historic village is the Wickham Square which serves as its business hub. The Square is surrounded by restaurants, coffee shops and accommodation.

The Warwick Lane indoor market

The Warwick Lane indoor market is situated to the right of the Square. Filled with shops, antiques and jewellery stores, this beautiful boutique shopping center is a delight to experience. If you enjoy shopping for that unique, hand crafted gift or relaxing in the coffeehouse – with a slice of cake, obviously – this is an experience like no other.

Named after Richard Warwick and his wife Joyce Lane, hence ‘Warwick Lane’, the building is steeped in history. The building has been in the Warwick family for about 125 years and holds regular events such as antique fairs, art sales and many more.

Russell Flint Pictures – 4 March 2017

This month the Warwick Lane indoor market features the printed art works of Sir William Russell Flint. The art works will be displayed for appreciation and potential purchase. Some of the prints will feature the signature of the late artist who is widely respected as the greatest watercolour painter of the last century. The notable support for antiques and collectables in Wickham is due the fact that Wickham has maintained its authenticity over the last few centuries.
